Re: Problems with Intel Centrino Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 device

Hello all,

I too have had issues over the years with my Centrino wireless N 6150 on my Asus gaming laptop. This morning my adapter completely stopped. Assured not WAP as my phone and other wireless enabled devices could connect. I here's what I've done to fix it.
No reboots required. Total time 2 minutes.

Some already talk about the wireless card driver reinstall but I think its all the drivers put together that may eventually cause the issue. So please try below even if you've already reinstalled wireless card driver. I think the issue resides in these three drivers someone getting misconfigured, I will explain below what I think my issue may have been.

I have Windows 7 64Bit, however in my experience working with Windows domains and networking I believe this strategy will help most any version of Windows OS.

We will reinstall 3 devices.

Go to Device Manager.

Right click on Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager

NOTE:Do NOT check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device".

Under heading Intel(R) Centrino(R) WiMAX adapters

1) look for Intel(R) Centrino(R) WiMAX 6150 Function Driver right click and select "uninstall" - Do NOT check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device".

Under heading Network adapters

2) look for Intel(R) Centrino(R) WiMAX 6150 right click and "uninstall" - Do NOT check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device".

3) look for Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 6150 right click and "uninstall" - Do NOT check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device".

Once all three have been removed most likely you'll see a red X in the icon tray for networking, if not connected to wire Ethernet.

Right click on your computer name at top of the Device Manager list and select Scan for hardware changes.

The computer will reinstall all 6150 adapter related systems/drivers giving a fresh start to the adapters configuration. I would recommend an updated driver install. Asus stopped their system updater service for my device so I’m forced to manually review all drivers and update manually.

Regarding why the system keeps disconnecting (at least on my system) was cause from a few programs I had that caused some settings adjustments on adapter. SonicWall NetExtender, VMWare Player, and Virtual Box. I removed these programs before I performed the driver reinstall but assured that I started with a "fresh" install of wireless adapter.

I hope this helps resolve your issue.

-Jason
