Re: Heat spikes in NUC7i7BNH

Okay I need to be a little bit more specific about what programs I am using that makes these heat spikes.

Besides the stress test (Which I am well aware of makes the temp rise a lot) I have used Windows Update, Installing Intels own drivers, Office 2016, VLC player, Cyberlink PowerDVD 16, (Watching movies from 480p to 1080p), Extracted files with

WinRAR. All of these programs makes the temperature rise to around 93 degrees celsious. And yes you say that, as long  as cpu temp stays below the 100 C it will be fine.

I think that there is two problems in that answer. One is that, because of the temp rising like it does, the NUC makes A LOT of noise and seriouly, you can't really open a program without the fan starting up, even though it is a small program, which doesn't make that much use of the cpu. I have tried to deactivate the Turbo Boost in the BIOS and this has makes it a little bit more "bearable". It still reaches 87 C from time to time and at idle it goes down to around 52 C. My Desktop has an Intel 5930K I7 cpu installed. When it is idle it is around 39 C. Even though the difference in the form factor in my NUC and my desktop is big I still think that the difference in the two PC's are too much. I shouldn't be forced to deactivate the turbo, to make the NUC work a bit better, when it should be working properly from the start and with the turbo boost turned on. Why pay for something that you in the end need to deactivate, to make it work better???

The other thing that I think is wrong with that answer, that you gave me, is, what about the NUC's lifespan? We know for a fact that heat is something that wears down all kinds of electronic parts, I really don't think that this cpu is going to last that long with those temperatures. Ireally do hope that Intel is able to fix this problem, because more and more people seems to be having these problems with the 7th gen processors.

Even though you say that 93 C is "fine", I disagree. It is only 7 C from the 100 C which is the limit. That in my eyes is NOT "fine"

Following are some quick fixes to your issue:

  • Power cycle your modem
  • Reset your modem to its factory default settings.
  • Update your firmware
  • Reset your browser.Restore its default settings.Delete temporary files and cookies.Clear the history and cache.
  • If all your devices are experiencing problems with the internet connection, turn your attention to your router. The first thing to try isn't very technical: turn it off and back on again. Rebooting the router fixes connection problems a surprisingly high proportion of the time

I hope these tips will resolve the issue if not? Then approach to Lenovo Thinkpad T61 Manual and do what the experts suggests on this.

Hi rahulmodi8812,

Yocto Linux is the only OS supported by Intel, so I think you will not receive much help in this forum, I think. Since you are using a port of Debian, you should ask for help to those promoting the OS distribution (such as the one in the blog you mentioned) or even the port author explicitly referred to in the blog post you sent the link in your post.

Fernando.

Hi Xtopher757,

The situation with the 32GB modules is that for some reason are out of stock. We have asked this and we hope all of our resellers have them available soon. Unfortunately, there is no ETA for these ones yet, but hopefully, they can get those in the next days.

You can also pre-order the module and as soon as the become available, they will ship it to you.

Re: Intel i7 4770K Heat - Data Corruption?

What have you done to "unblock" the fan you blocked?

Are any of the wiring from the power supply blocking the fan blades?

Have you replaced the fan?

Is the fan still functional (working)?

What makes you think there is data corruption?

Intel i7 4770K Heat - Data Corruption?

$

Hi,

I have an Intel 4770K with stock heatsink (low profile).  After moving stuff in the PC something has dislodged and blocked the fan on the cooler.   This has caused the CPU to sit around 84-90C.   This was discovered about 24 hours later when I went to plug in a new drive and saw the CPU fan wasn't running - which lead me to check the ASUS monitoring software.

I have some very important stuff on the PC - and I made a lot of changes to my files in that time frame.   If in theory -- the PC was running at it's thermal threshold, what is the likelihood my data could suffer corruption?

Thanks - M

Edison stuck on boot

I was following this tutorial to connect a bluetooth speaker on startup :GitHub - maestr0/intel-edison: Basic shell scripts for my Intel Edison

I changed the MAC address in the script file to the one of my speaker and rebooted the edison. Now the edison fails to connect to the speaker and is stuck on boot. When the connection fails, the edison reboots again. Is there any way to remove the script or boot?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Re: NUC7i7BNH Displayport on USB-C not detected on Windows Start

Hello JC,

thank you for your answer. Two comments from my side:

- When I want to connect a displayport monitor the USB-C (and thunderbolt) port is blocked. Not good. The only option I see is to spend another $200 to buy a thunderbolt docking station. Would this work? I was looking for a HDMI 2.0 to displayport adapter like the one listed on the Intel webiste, but these cannot be purchased, at least not in Germany.

- Having a KVM device is not so 'exotic', at least not for a software developer. Plenty of hardware on the desk. There is no KVM switch on your list. Does this mean, that I cannot recommend your NUC 7i7 for this scenario? The company I work for (just about 8k people) would love to hear this...

Please find a solution, all other NUCs I have (5i5, 6i7) work in my setup, it is just the 7i7 which fails miserably..

Best regards

Josef

Unite Hub - Shared screen not full screen (black borders)

Hi,

I have PoC running in our environment and it's looking good. But one thing bothers me badly, when connecting to HUB (HP Slice for... / Windows 10) shared screen has black borders so image is cropped and we are losing precious screen display area. How to make HUB-screen to utilize used display 100%. Source has same resolution than HUB-display. I'm running Enterprise-mode with HTTPS.

Hi Steven

We have the server currently sitting on a workbench in our office. Its power supplies are directly connected to power sockets and there is no UPS protecting those sockets as far as I am aware.

I chose option 3, to install both the SDR and FRU when I performed the BIOS update with the OFU.

Kind regards and thanks

Ryan

Jose P.,

S0i3 won't work for us because we need to be completely unpowered.  S0i3 stores to RAM, so power is still required to keep RAM functional.  S0i4 may do the trick though.  Your link pointed me to how you can enter the S0ix states.  It looks like I would do: echo "disk" /sys/power/state

I will try this when I get a chance. Thank you.

Wi-Fi issues with ASRock J4205-ITX + Intel 8265

Hello,

I have a strange Wi-Fi issue with ASRock J4205-ITX and Intel 8265 M.2 card:

1. Wi-Fi card is available just after cold boot, after reboot/restart Wi-Fi card is not recognized and is unavailable. This happens both on Linux and Windows 10.

2. Bluetooth is working fine, even after reboot/restart.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is enabled in BIOS, BIOS version is newest. I previously own an Intel 7260 card and it was working just fine, but speeds were pretty low, that's why I've upgraded to newer card.

Any one had similar problems or know the cause?

Thank you,

Best Regards!
